About Amanita pantherina

Amanita pantherina, known as the panther cap or panther amanita, is a forest mushroom of the Amanita genus found across Europe. It is recognised by its brown to olive-brown cap scattered with small pure-white warts, white gills, a white ring on the stem and a bulbous base with a distinct rolled rim. It grows in mixed and coniferous forests, often near pine, spruce, oak and beech, and fruits from late summer to autumn.

Where our panther caps come from

Our Amanita pantherina is wild-collected in the Baltic region — Lithuania and Latvia — during the main season from August to October. The caps are cleaned, carefully dried and packed in sealed bags.

Important safety information

Amanita pantherina is a poisonous mushroom. It contains ibotenic acid and muscimol, and eating it can cause serious poisoning. All products in this collection are sold as botanical collectibles, for display and study only — not as food, a food supplement or a medicine, and they are not intended for consumption. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Rules on Amanita species differ between countries, so please check the regulations of your destination before ordering.

Storage

Keep dried caps and powder in a closed container, in a cool, dry and dark place. Moisture is the main enemy of dried mushrooms.

Questions & answers

Where is your Amanita pantherina from?

Our panther caps are wild-collected in Lithuanian and Latvian forests during the late-summer and autumn season, then cleaned, dried and packed.

What is the difference between closed caps and regular dried caps?

Closed (unopened) caps are young caps picked before they flatten out. They are more uniform in size and shape and are our premium presentation. Regular dried caps are mature caps dried whole.

How is Amanita pantherina different from Amanita muscaria?

Amanita muscaria (fly agaric) has a bright red to orange cap with white warts. Amanita pantherina has a brown, olive or grey-brown cap with small pure-white warts and a bulb with a rolled rim. They are different species and are labelled separately in our shop.

Can I eat or drink these products?

No. Amanita pantherina is poisonous. Our products are sold for collection, display and study only and are not intended for consumption.

Do you ship Amanita pantherina to my country?

We ship within the EU, to the UK, the USA, Canada and other destinations. Some countries restrict Amanita species — the checkout will block destinations we cannot serve, and you should check your local rules before ordering.

How fast is delivery?

Usually 3–5 business days to Latvia, 4–6 to Estonia, 7–15 to the rest of Europe and the UK, and 15–20 to the USA and Canada. Every order gets a tracking number.
