How We Hand‑Pick Amanita Pantherina in the Baltic Forests

A Glimpse Into Our Forest Day

Every autumn, when the Baltic air turns crisp and the moss is still wet with morning dew, we walk into the forest.

No machines. No GPS grids. Just baskets, knives, and decades of local knowledge.

Our harvesting grounds are located along the Lithuania–Latvia border, near the village of Ezere – a quiet corridor of old‑growth pines, birches, and hidden clearings. This is where Amanita pantherina and Amanita muscaria have grown wild for centuries.

Why the Baltics?

The Baltic region is special for three reasons:

  1. Clean soil – Low industrial pollution, no heavy metals.

  2. Natural forest composition – Mixed woods that Amanita species love.

  3. Strong foraging traditions – Local families have harvested wild mushrooms for generations.

We don’t cultivate. We don’t spray. We simply find and preserve what nature already made perfect.

How We Pick – Step by Step

Step What we do
1. Spotting Walk slowly, scan the moss under pines and birches. Pantherina hides well – brown on brown.
2. Identification Double‑check white warts, skirt ring, bulbous base. No guesswork.
3. Cutting Use a knife to cut the stem (never pull – protects the mycelium).
4. Basket collection Never plastic bags. Baskets keep caps from sweating and breaking.
5. Cleaning Gently brush off pine needles and dirt on site.

We leave the smallest buttons behind. Sustainability means taking only what is ready.

From Forest to Your Door

After harvest, we bring the caps to our small drying facility – a converted wooden cabin with low‑temperature dehydrators.

Why low and slow?
High heat destroys the natural color and makes caps brittle. Our method (35–40°C for 24–48 hours) preserves:

  • The rich brown caps with white warts (pantherina)

  • The orange‑red colour of muscaria

  • The structural integrity of the gills and stem

Once fully dried, each batch is inspected by hand. B‑grade broken caps go into one box. Premium intact caps into another. Then packed in moisture‑proof, discreet bags – ready for worldwide shipping.

Respect for the Forest, Respect for You

We are not a factory. We are three enthusiasts who believe that:

  • Wild mushrooms should be honestly presented – no fake “organic” labels, just real origin.

  • Customers deserve transparency – you know exactly where your specimen came from.

  • This tradition should continue for generations – so we never over‑harvest.

See the Difference

Next time you hold one of our Amanita pantherina caps, look closely.
The tiny dirt speck. The slightly uneven warts. The natural curve of the cap.

That’s not imperfection.
That’s the signature of a real Baltic forest.
